Europe Part II: What am I eating?

Portugal + Spain

2018

In the Spring of 2018, I took a sabbatical away from my full time job to travel abroad throughout Europe. Over the course of 72 days, I found myself in 20 cities spread throughout 8 countries. As with most of my travels, its possible to create an entire photo series just on the local cuisine I ate, but alas, I stuck to mostly the beautiful and diverse landscapes, vibrant colors and textures unique to each city, and impressive architecture…and of course silly-selfies with a sheep I met on a mountain (let’s save that’s for Part V).

This book, What am I eating?: Portugal + Spain, is Part II (Star Wars style) of my adventure, encompassing the two weeks I spent with my family in Portugal and Spain. We toured the fairytale-esque palace in Pena, became immersed in the street art culture of Lisbon, and stood on the western most point of Europe at Cabo de Roca. Once we crossed over into Spain, we looked over Seville from the top of the Metropol Parasol and ate a mound of churros in Madrid.

On each title page, there is a color associated with the location and illustrations of the memorial and impactful landmarks we encountered. Using my photographs as references, I created all of the landmark illustrations using Adobe Illustrator. These illustrations can also be found scattered throughout the pages, hiding among the photos they represent.

Other books to come in this series…
Part I: Netherlands: Eb + Flow
Part III: Love, Party, Eat: Barcelona, Ibiza, + Antwerp
Part IV: Paddleboats + Sailboats: Czech Republic + Croatia
Part V: Walked Across the Border: Switzerland + France
